What They Are Saying

Since 2022, 3 CORE Susquehanna Americorps members have served with Chesapeake Conservancy, leading our live staking program. They are responsible for the success and growth of that program and the positive impact it has on our local streams. In total, they have led over 900 volunteer hours worth of work to collect 40,000 tree and shrub stakes to be planted. We are so proud of the work that comes out of the CORE Susquehanna Americorps program!

Since joining DIG Furniture Bank as a CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps member, Cherie has become an essential part of our team. From August to June, she coordinated 338 volunteers—176 of them brand new—and supported over 1,500 volunteer hours. Her leadership has strengthened our volunteer program, streamlined donation intake, and brought compassion and energy to every corner of our mission. Thanks to CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps, we gained not only a dedicated team member, but a future leader in the nonprofit sector.

Through CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps, Shelly played a vital role in expanding the reach and efficiency of food access efforts across the SUN region. From August to May, she supported the redistribution of over 4,850 pounds of food to more than 20 local food programs and assisted with mobile pantries serving 40+ households each month. She also helped coordinate 566 volunteers, including 219 new volunteers, for initiatives like the Sustainable Move Out, Feed a Friend Food Drive, and summer lunch deliveries. From inventory tracking to volunteer engagement, Shelly’s service made local food systems stronger, more organized, and more responsive. Her impact is a clear reflection of the value CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps brings to the communities it serves.

This summer at YMCA Day Camp, a young deaf camper joined us for the first time—and thanks to our CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members, her experience was filled with connection and joy. Our team took the initiative to learn basic American Sign Language, helping her fully participate in games, crafts, and daily activities. Their commitment to inclusion created a welcoming environment where she made friends and felt truly part of the YMCA community. This moment is just one example of how CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members make a lasting difference by showing up with empathy, creativity, and heart.
