Our Mission & What We Do
CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps strengthens schools, nonprofits, and communities across Central Pennsylvania by empowering members to serve. Our members address critical needs in education, health, human services, and capacity building. Together we build stronger communities through service and collaboration.

Every year, CORE members serve with local partner organizations to:
-
Support students through tutoring, mentoring, and after-school programs
-
Expand access to health and wellness resources
-
Help families meet basic needs such as food, housing, and safety
-
Strengthen the capacity of nonprofits and community organizations

Through these efforts, our members provide thousands of hours of service that directly improve the lives of children, families, and communities in our region.
Our Story & CORE Values
CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps was founded in 1994 when the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency received an AmeriCorps grant to bring national service to Central Pennsylvania. Since then, we have grown to partner with organizations across 11 counties, connecting members with opportunities to serve where they are needed most.

At the heart of our story are the values behind our name:

-
We build connections that strengthen schools, nonprofits, and neighborhoods.
-
We create pathways for growth and service for members and the communities they serve.
-
We step up to meet local challenges and remain accountable to those we serve.
-
We give members, volunteers, and partners the tools to succeed and thrive.

As part of AmeriCorps, our members also contribute to a national movement that has engaged more than 1.3 million Americans in service since 1994.
